Phase Behavior of Ternary Homopolymer/Diblock Blends: Microphase Unbinding in the Symmetric System
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the phase behavior of a symmetric AB diblock, blended with corresponding A and B homopolymers, all of equal chain length. Evaluating the phase diagram in mean-field theory at all compositions of the ternary blend, we find no hexagonal and cubic phases. However, up to three distinct lamellar phases can coexist, one being symmetric and the other two being asymmetric. For strong incompatibility, added homopolymer eventually phase separates from the microstructure. For weak segregation, the symmetric lamellar phase at moderate dilution breaks up into two coexisting lamellar phases, each asymmetrically swollen by either A or B homopolymer. These phases can be swollen indefinitely, finally unbinding into the disordered phase. As a consequence, one expects to find lamellar order at much lower diblock concentrations toward the binary sides of the phase diagram than on the

Lifshitz points in blends of AB and BC diblock copolymers
– We consider microand macro-phase separation in blends of AB and BC flexible diblock copolymers. We show that, depending on architecture, a number of phase diagram topologies are possible. Microphase separation or macrophase separation can occur, and there are a variety of possible Lifshitz points. Because of the rich parameter space, Lifshitz points of multiple order are possible. We demonstr...
متن کاملPhase Behavior of Ternary Homopolymer/Diblock Blends: Influence of Relative Chain Lengths
We study the phase behavior of ternary blends of Aand B-homopolymers and symmetric, or slightly asymmetric, AB-diblock copolymer as obtained from self-consistent field theory. We choose one value of the segregation in the weak to intermediate regime and determine the effects of varying the relative degrees of polymerization of the components. The diagrams we obtain, which contain the classical ...
متن کاملDiblock Copolymer / Homopolymer Blends: Derivation of a Density Functional Theory
Melts of diblock copolymer / homopolymer blends exhibit multiscale phase separation: (i) macrophase separation into homopolymerand copolymer-rich macrodomains followed by (ii) microphase separation into Aand B-rich microdomains within the copolymer-rich macrodomains (cf. [16, 17, 26]). Following our previous derivation in [6], we derive a density functional theory for blends. This theory has be...
متن کاملOn the Behavior of the Lifshitz Line in Ternary Homopolymer/Diblock-Copolymer Blends
We present results of the study of the non-monotonous behavior of the Lifshitz line as a function of temperature in ternary homopolymer/diblock-copolymer mixtures. The non-monotonous behavior of the Lifshitz line is due to the wave vector dependence of fluctuational corrections, which we treat in the framework of the renormalization group method. Our results are in agreement with the experiment...
متن کاملMicrophase separation through competitive hydrogen bonding in self-assembled A-b-B/C diblock copolymer/homopolymer complexes.
We present a study of microphase separation induced by competitive hydrogen bonding in A-b-B/C diblock copolymer/homopolymer complexes where the diblock copolymer A-b-B is immiscible and the homopolymer C can interact unequally with both A and B blocks through hydrogen bonding. A model system containing poly(2-vinyl pyridine)-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) (P2VP-b-PMMA) and poly(4-vinyl phenol...
